F.A.Q's

How to buy products from our store:

  • Choose the product that you are after (e.g. a "Suction Hose Kit" or "Pressure Hose Kit")
  • Click on the image of the product or click "Add to Cart". Don't worry; you are not committed to the sale at this stage. You can remove any item at any stage from your shopping cart before payment is required.
  • Some products allow you to choose optional hose lengths. The listed price is for the shortest length available. Click the drop-down box in the product options column and select the length of hose you require.
  • Each option advises the additional cost for that hose length. Add this cost to the listed price to get the total for the item. Select you option and click "Add to Cart".
  • Select the quantity of kits you require if you need more than one.
  • Click on the shopping cart at any time to check the total or edit the quantity of any item.

Hose sizes
Hose is usually measured by the inside diameter or I.D. This can be stated in inches or millimeters. Lay flat hose size is commonly mistaken by measuring the hose across while it is flat. Lay flat hose should be measured the same as other types of hose, by the inside diameter.

Lay flat Hose I.D versus width when flat

65mm width = 38mm I.D.
85mm width = 50mm I.D.
125mm width = 75mm I.D.
175mm width = 100mm I.D.
250mm width = 150mm I.D.
325mm width = 200mm I.D.

Imperial to Metric conversion

1” = 25mm
1-1/4” = 32mm
1-1/2” = 38mm (40mm in plumbing)
2” = 50mm
3" = 76mm (80mm in plumbing)

Types of hose

Hoses are categorized into two main groups of hose.

Pressure & Suction
Pressure (or delivery) hoses are designed to transfer air or fluid under a positive pressure. A pressure hose is attached to the outlet side of the water pump. A nozzle is normally attached to the outlet end of the pressure hose, allowing for fine control of the water flow.

Suction
Suction hoses are designed to transfer fluid under a negative pressure. A suction hose is attached to the inlet side of the pump.

Camlock or brass nut and tail?

Camlocks are a convenient way to quickly couple and uncouple hoses from equipment. They consist of a male and female half. The rubber seal is encapsulated in the female camlock meaning it will not fall out. There are no threads to screw together.
A brass nut and tail has a female swivel nut which screws on to a male thread. The seal is loose and can fall out of the fitting. Threads can be damaged and cross-threaded, resulting in the fittings not being able to be screwed together.

Which fire hose?
Our fire hoses are divided into two main categories, Pressure and Suction hose. Our suction hoses are available in a number of fitting configurations to suit your needs.

Pressure Hoses

  • 20mm fire reel hose kit – For use with a limited water supply and usually used in shorter lengths. The flow rate is lower than larger hoses and that means your water source will last longer
  • 25mm fire reel hose kit – Better flow rates over the 20mm hose which makes it ideal for longer hose length applications
  • 38mm layflat hose kit – For high flow fire fighting where you don’t have a limited water supply. The hose is more compact and easier to handle and transport than rigid fire hose. Hose can be easily deployed when you are in a hurry.

Suction Hoses

Tank Connect Kit – For the connection of your fire pump directly to a water tank. It uses camlock couplings to connect.

Foot Valve Kit – Used when there is a substantial height difference between where the water is and where the pump will sit. A foot valve is a one way valve that does not allow water to drain out of the hose when the pump is turned off, negating the need for priming of the hose.

Brass Kit – A general purpose kit with plastic strainer and brass nut and tail fitting.

Quick Connect Kit – A suction hose which can be quickly connected using a camlock coupling. Once the male half of the camlock coupling is attached to the pump it takes literally seconds to connect the suction hose to the pump.

Storz Kit – This kit uses a storz coupling that is a twist and lock type of coupling which is a common fire brigade hose coupling in some states.
